The Leftovers: This week's finds, variations, and other models that didn't make the cut...

Week 2 of the Leftovers. I think last week there was more to show, especially with my first Super find since before Christmas. This week most of my finds came towards the end, as my schedule was quite busy and did not permit me to hit a lot of stores earlier. I still did pretty well.

On Friday I found myself near a couple of Walmarts that I normally don't visit, so I had a look. I am glad I did.

Both stores had pretty picked-over Bins of Death, and you could tell by the condition of the cards that these bins had been thoroughly picked over by quite a few hands. So how they missed these two errors is beyond me:

No-side-tampos Classic Batmobile:

All-small-wheels Nova Wagon:

The no-side-tampo Batmobile stuck out like a sore thumb. It is a very unique find, and one you would think would have been discovered by the Hunt-seekers. But alas, they might have been a little too focused on finding Hunts. The all-small-wheels Nova Wagon could be a little harder to spot, but luckily it was hanging out on the top of the pile and I was able to see it right away.

That second Walmart also yielded the next batch of Retro Entertainment:

Lastly, a First Look that I never got to, the blue Subaru WRX STI, with both wheel variations. I think both the 10sp and MC5 will be fairly common. 10sp is the early run and MC5 the later.

Exclusives? Mainlines? A look at the Target Easter Speedsters 5-packs...

Hot Wheels holiday exclusives are not models that are high on my "anticipation" list. Of course I am always curious to see what models are being used, but normally they are not models I collect. There are obvious exceptions, like last year's Easter VW SP2

, and the Christmas set from 2011

that featured a Focus RS, Cadillac CTS, Lamborghini Gallardo, and a Datsun 240Z.

While the carded exclusives continue, Hot Wheels has changed their strategy on holiday multipacks. Gone are the holiday-themed models, and in are a slew of models used elsewhere. Last year it was all mainlines, with a vari or two thrown in. This year it looks like a mixture of mainlines and multipack exclusives. When the Target packs arrived, several of the models had not been seen previously, so there was an assumption that some were exclusive. It appears that none of them are. Those models that haven't been seen will probably show up either in the mainline or in multipacks.

Which leads to a mix of convoluted thoughts:

Hot Wheels appears to be doing more multipack exclusives - models that appear only in 3-packs, 9-packs in the US, and 10-packs internationally. And now apparently holiday 5-packs. It does make acquiring these models a little easier, that is if they don't show up in 3-packs.

While the past two years have featured these exclusives, this year is slightly different. Previously the exclusives were castings used solely for the multipacks. This year it appears to be mainline models that have been used the last couple of years, only recolored. Some might not be terribly happy with that, wanting instead separate castings. Me? I like it. Many of these models were New Models that got one or two recolors only, and for the castings I collect the more models the merrier.

It looks like the approach to the Easter 5-packs is similar to what we see in the 9- and 10-packs. There is no exact pattern, like with normal 5-packs. I have been to several Targets, and each store had a different mix of packs, and there were different models in many of them. For example, I only found the Ford Falcon Race Car at one store.

We will show a few of these models in more detail in the coming days...

The Error Report: My error finds the last two weeks, plus the '92 BMW with a Skyline interior...

If you follow the Lamley Facebook page, you know that I try to post quick iphone photos of what I find in my travels. Sometimes it is a Super, other times a new model, and others a cool error or vari.

Many of the errors and vari's I am showing today I have posted on Facebook, but a few I haven't. That is because I found five errors tonight at the same store. That is one of the largest error hauls I have ever had. Thank goodness Ms. Lamley Group sent me to the store for some mango.

Now about that BMW error. This was reported found a couple of weeks ago by a member over at HWC. You know it is the wrong interior by the fact that it has a front rollbar. No one had figured out what interior it was, so since I found one tonight I took a look.
