Just Unveiled: Hot Wheels X Games 5-pack, including a new version of the Mitsubishi Evo...

Here is a pack that might interest a few of you.

Outside of the occasional Ferrari or World Race set, Hot Wheels 5-packs don't spark too much of our interest.  This X-Games pack, just found overseas, would normally not interest us either.  Hell, we can't name four of the models in the pack.

But we do know what that fourth car is.  The Mitsubishi Evo gets a lot of you giddy, so we thought we would let you know another is coming.  A cross promotion with the X-Games probably makes sense, especially with an Evo in the pack, so we assume a few of you will pick this up.

I might.  The only Hot Wheels Evos in the Lamley collection are the First Editions, mainly because they are the only versions that look somewhat stock.  So if I am honest this will stay on the pegs.

But that is probably not the case with a lot of you...

Model of the Day: Tomica Limited Vintage Neo Mitsubishi Galant GTO 2000 GSR...

Yesterday we showed Tomica Limited Vintage's near-perfect take on the Porsche 911 S, and the response from our readers has been great.  We have more Porsches to show, as well as a Mercedes and soon an Audi.  But we mustn't forget TLV's bread-and-butter, Japanese cars.

I mentioned yesterday that TLV is a very dangerous addiction.  The $15-$20 pricetag these models carry, especially for US-based collectors who have to buy them from overseas sellers, can deplete a diecast budget in seconds.  But any buyer's remorse one might feel at the time of purchase quickly vanishes the minute the model is in-hand.

Today's example is the Mitsubishi Galant GTO.  Early Japanese cars have such a tremendous amount of character, and TLV captures that flawlessly.  The obvious American muscle car influence is there, just as it is in early Celicas, with the ducktail rear and Mustang-y taillights.  Ah, the joy of those lines.  It makes me more and more depressed about the 2013 Ford Escape I drive for work.  The car with no personality, a bluetooth sync system that doesn't work well at all, and can only bring driving joy when I roll down the windows and close my eyes and pretend I am driving something different, but that has never been a smart idea at 85 mph.

You can't drive minicars, but they can sure help you remember the joy of driving.  So thank goodness for TLV and their love of the lesser known.  There is a Galant in the Lamley collection.  Damn that's cool.

Matchbox Monday First Look: 60th Anniversary Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Police...

I am very excited to finally have the first batch of the 60th Anniversary in hand.  They have yet to hit retailers, but dealers have them, including our Matchbox Monday Partner MVE Collectibles.  Be sure to look into their "One of Each" program, where you can order one example of each model, instead of having to buy a whole case.

We will be showcasing all six of the first batch over the next several days, but let me be self-indulgent and start with my favorite of the bunch.  The Evo X Police has been my favorite Matchbox Police casting since it was released in 2011, and I don't think I am alone in that.  It was great to see a Japanese car with a strong European presence get some attention on the line, and more importantly, see the sporty Evo take its place next to the Crown Vics and Chargers that we are used to seeing in the lineup.  Plus, coupling the Evo with the Subaru WRX Police makes for quite a pair.  Say what you will about the current direction Matchbox is taking, but I think we can all agree that Matchbox knows police cars (and there is a STUNNING Gallardo Police coming out if you need more evidence.)

Well the model hits its peak in the 60th lineup, sporting the Essex police livery and a full 4-sided deco, and it looks spectacular.  I would say it is a difinitive Matchbox model, with its non-US origin and UK livery.  I very appropriate tribute to Matchbox's roots.  It will be hard to top this one, although I am more than happy to see the team attempt it.  I have a feeling this one will be a hit with collectors, Matchbox or not, so I would surely pick one up...
